  19.      _f_l_a_s_h allows a user to manage the flash PROMs on the IO and node boards
  20.      of Origin high-end and the base system board on OCTANE systems.  Without
  21.      options, the command flashes all appropriate boards on the machine with
  22.      the PROM images found in /_u_s_r/_c_p_u/_f_i_r_m_w_a_r_e.  Normally, _f_l_a_s_h is executed
  23.      automatically during the installation of a new release of IRIX.  A
  24.      customer should rarely need to use it directly.  You must have superuser
  25.      privilege to use this command.

  27.      By default on Origin systems, _f_l_a_s_h takes the current configuration
  28.      values (such as processor speed and cache size) that are currently stored
  29.      in the PROM and uses these values when flashing the new images.  Without
  30.      options, _f_l_a_s_h proceeds in parallel in two phases.  Half the boards are
  31.      flashed in the first phase and half in the second.  Using options, it is
  32.      possible to flash a subset of the boards.  Also, the user can specify a
  33.      different image directory and different image files.

  35.      By default on OCTANE systems, the single system flash PROM is flashed
  36.      with the specified image.  On OCTANE systems, options specifying multiple
  37.      PROMs, types of PROMs, or PROM configuration values will be silently
  38.      ignored.

  40.      OCTANE systems have an additional feature of storing information from
  41.      diagnostics in the flash PROM for extraction at a later time.  The ----LLLL
  42.      option invokes this processing, and transfers the extracted information
  43.      into syslog.  This processing will take place automatically during each
  44.      system boot.

  46.      Unless forced, _f_l_a_s_h does not flash the PROM unless the specified version
  47.      is newer than what is currently in the PROM.  _f_l_a_s_h can also be used to
  48.      obtain information about the current PROMs.

  53.                   flashing in two groups.

  77.                   values to be used when the new images are flashed.  These
  78.                   values include the speed of the CPU, hub, and size of the
  79.                   cache.  This option should be used with great care as cause
  80.                   the machine to freeze and be rendered unusable if incorrect
  81.                   values are given.

  83.      ----FFFF           Similar to ----ffff except more detailed information is required
  84.                   and no checking is done in the input values.  This is more
  85.                   dangerous the ----ffff option and the same cautions apply.

  102.                   flashed.  The options specifying the type of PROM to be
  103.                   flashed should match the PROM specified in _i_m_g__n_a_m_e.

  143.      The _f_l_a_s_h command is not intended for casual use.  If used incorrectly,
  144.      it can completely freeze a system and prevent it from even booting the
  145.      PROM.  Also, frequent flashing decreases the lifetime of the system's
  146.      boards.  Silicon Graphics strongly recommends that this command only be
  147.      used under the supervision of a support representative.
